What’s the Difference Between a Soul Purpose and a Soul Plan? (and how to find yours)

By accessing your Akashic Records, you can get information about the plans you made as a soul, before coming into this life; the lessons you planned to learn; any karma, soul contracts or vows you brought from previous lives; and guidance to ensure you are moving forward the easy way.

Before we came into the life we now live, each of our souls designed a plan. This soul plan contains the essence of what we are to accomplish this lifetime.

It may be to know what love truly is, to experience selflessness, or connect people to one another.

Perhaps it’s to understand the joy of being of service. There are as many soul plans as there are souls.

Your soul purpose is how you carry out this soul plan. The misnomer that each of us has a single purpose and that we’re destined to be miserable until we find it is ridiculous.

It’s time to toss the many books, blogs, and articles that claim to have the formula to discover your one true soul purpose and examine how you are already living it.

Can You Have More Than One Soul Purpose to Fulfill Your Soul Plan?

What exactly is a soul purpose?

Many think of it as a divine job description – entrepreneur, artist, healer – when what’s important are the gifts and talents you’ve accumulated from numerous lifetimes. Specific paths you’ve chosen in other lives may be a piece of how you do things this time, but they don’t necessarily equate to one single path.

You can use your many abilities in multiple ways.

The fallacy that you have to fit them like a jigsaw puzzle into one neat package is absurd.

Humans are curious creatures and it doesn’t honor our nature not to explore all of the things that inspire us and be open to employing our talents in arenas that show up, even if we originally had no interest in them.

What I’ve discovered, both from my own journey, as well as supporting others on theirs, is that most of us have multiple soul purposes that support our Soul Plan.

I’ve realized I have three main purposes this lifetime: Communicator, Mother, and Healer.

The discovery of my first Life-Soul Purpose was no surprise. I spent years in advertising and cultivated quite a successful career. These talents and skills – both honed from past lives and acquired in this one – translated easily and I believe that is my over-arching soul purpose. Author, teacher, and Akashic reader all fall under this umbrella.

I’ve known for a while that part of my purpose is to share the wisdom of the Akashic Records – a superconscious library of sorts that contains all the details (thoughts, feelings, experiences) from every lifetime you’ve lived – with humanity and to assist in helping people to remember the truth of who they are. All required me to be a skilled and thoughtful communicator.

Realizing that part of my overall soul purpose included being a Mother was a bit curious as I never had any great drive or interest in having kids. Through my work in the Akashic Records, I learned I had four soul contracts (or agreements to further my evolution) to be a mother in this life. Three are my natural children and one is my nephew, who I consider to be my son.

Remember, you don’t need to give birth to a child to fulfill your soul purpose as a mother. Some women have a soul contract to be a Divine Mother, an important role that involves being the mother of all instead of one or two.

In retrospect, now that I’ve worked in the Akashic Records for two decades, Healer makes sense. I lived many lives as a healer of one sort or another, and it’s clear to me that in this lifetime I came to use this skill to help heal trauma and emotional pain. This is essential to human evolution because, without the healing process, you cannot remember the truth of who you are.

You may already be living in a way that is aligned with your Life Purposes and just don’t recognize it.

Many of us wait for that bolt of lightning or prop our eyes open so we don’t miss the special message that reveals this mysterious secret. That’s not the way it happens.

There are three environments in which we live our Life Purposes :

1. work,
2. family, and
3. relationships.

If you can’t imagine that your current job is already a part of your soul purpose, I encourage you to examine your work from a different perspective.

A client once came to me asking about his soul purpose, part of which he believed was to share love and wisdom with the people in his life.

He couldn’t fathom how his job in IT was related.

When we dug deeper, he became clear that his ability to lead his team with compassion and wisdom fulfilled part of his life- soul purpose. His gift of leadership was just being used in a way he hadn’t recognized.

What you do for a living is nowhere near as important as you how you operate in any given situation.

The question is, are you at the highest and best that you can be today?

This includes your relationships as well. The way you’ll know that you are acting in a way aligned with your Life Purpose is because you experience peace and contentment inside.

To go beneath the surface in your own life so you can see where you’re already living your Life – Soul Purpose, make four columns on a piece of paper to create your own Soul Purpose Map.

Here’s a part of mine:

Take a week or so to jot down thoughts as they come. When you’ve finished, look for the patterns. In mine, the communicator is obvious, as are supporting others and making people feel safe and special. The characteristics that overlap all three environments show you where you are already living the life you were meant to live.

Some people want to make the concept of living their soul purpose complex and hard to find, but the path is there if you look. Using the gifts that come to you naturally and easily are the foundation of your Life Purpose; to uncover and share them is an ongoing journey.

Remember Not to Attach the “How”

Because you have more than one purpose, you may find that you are fulfilling one or more, at any given time. It’s a path, not a destination. It expands and grows as you do. The other aspect I remind people of is not to be attached to the environment where your purpose is fulfilled.

I have had so many clients over the years who determined that their purpose needed to be accomplished in a specific way. If one of your purposes is to minister, it’s important to remember you don’t need a pulpit to do that. You can minister to co-workers, friends, strangers. Try to cut the ties to expectations about where your purpose is achieved and it will open the door for you to express that purpose in ways you cannot imagine.

Final thoughts on Soul Plans

Some of you may be wondering how to know your Soul Plan. The best way I’ve found to obtain this information is by working with the Akashic Records. There are several ways you can access these. The first is meditation (there are two complementary meditations on my site. You can find the link in my bio) is one. Finding a state of mind without thought provides the opportunity for messages from the Akashic Masters to come through.

The second way is to study with an Akashic Teacher. I offer classes – both in-person and online – on a regular basis where people dig deeper into the Akashic Records and practice accessing their own. The third is to work with an Akashic Reader, who facilitates the connection. All methods have value and only you can decide what will work best for you.

You may feel driven to uncover your Soul Plan. And while I would never discourage someone from finding that answer, I will offer you this. The journey is just as important. If what you’re doing with your life, if the people who surround you, bring you joy, is that enough? To me, that is the best indicator that you are fulfilling your plan, regardless of what it is. Uncovering your intended path, a step at a time is your real purpose. Enjoy the process!
