How to Let Go of Aversions & Attractions & Surrender to GOD
S1 E14
In this week’s episode of The Awakening Quest Podcast: 1001 Ways to True Power, and Conscious, Elevated Living, something I wanted to share with you came to me.
It’s an advanced spiritual understanding that if you “get it,” your efforts at letting go of many lower-level things will help you raise your consciousness more readily.
So what I am sharing with you today is how to let go of aversions and attractions, and surrender to God that effort and intention.
During my discussion of letting go of aversions and attractions, I explain what aversions and attractions are with examples and help you understand why you would even want to do so.
I also tell a story about a lesson in letting go of aversions and how the opportunity to learn about it came to me through my experience watching The Ranch on Netflix.
Listen in how I describe my initial aversion to some aspects of The Ranch on Netflix. I then describe how insights came to me about the issue I had aversions to and how the aversion melted away when I recognized another point of view (call it God’s view).
I then share a review of The Ranch on Netflix from a different perspective and understanding. When you operate from higher levels of consciousness you start to see things through a truer lense and understanding.
I hope you enjoy this episode and “get” how to surrender to God and understand what letting go aversions and attractions is all about and how it can help you let go of lower levels of consciousness and emotions more readily and raise your level of consciousness into a more freeing and balanced perspective.

What Does It Mean to Surrender to God?
Surrendering to God isn’t about giving up or withdrawing from life; it’s about embracing profound trust and humility. This act of surrender, known as “atma-nivedana,” involves acknowledging our smallness in the vast universe and fully trusting God’s plan, even when we don’t understand it.
The journey of surrender includes three significant steps: accepting the lack of control, reflecting on our personal story, and moving forward with unwavering trust. The biblical story of Abraham, who demonstrated immense faith by being willing to sacrifice his only son at God’s command, powerfully illustrates this concept.
In essence, surrendering means letting go of our worldly desires and sins, humbly giving our lives over to a higher authority. It involves a continuous process of releasing our hold on circumstances and trusting in divine guidance, knowing that it leads to spiritual growth and inner peace.
For many, surrender represents a daily commitment that impacts both spiritual and physical well-being. This profound act of faith and trust allows us to align with divine will, embrace humility, and find joy in the journey of spiritual awakening.

Aversion: A Deep Dive into Its Meaning in Psychology and Behavior
Have you ever shuddered at the thought of eating a particular food or intensely disliked a behavior? That gut reaction is known as aversion. Fundamentally, aversion is a strong repugnance or distaste towards something, accompanied by a desire to avoid it. In simpler terms, it’s that intense “nope” your brain signals when faced with something unpleasant.
But there’s more to it when we delve into psychology and behavior. In psychological contexts, aversion is often associated with behavior modification techniques, particularly aversion therapy. This therapy aims to reduce or eliminate undesirable behaviors by pairing them with unpleasant stimuli. Think of it as turning pleasure into an “uh-uh” moment. For instance, in treating alcohol use disorder, a patient might be given a drug that induces nausea when alcohol is consumed, creating a negative association with drinking.
In behavioral studies, aversive conditioning involves linking noxious or unpleasant stimuli with unwanted behaviors. This form of conditioning helps break the cycle of behaviors by making them less appealing through negative reinforcement or punishment.
Ultimately, aversion plays a crucial role in shaping our reactions and behaviors, whether it’s avoiding a bad habit or feeling an automatic dislike towards something. 🌟
What Is an Attraction to Something?
Attraction is a multifaceted phenomenon encompassing a sense of closeness, interest, or desire toward someone. Psychologists categorize attraction into various types: physical, social, and task. Physical attraction refers to the aesthetic appeal one person finds in another. Social attraction involves being drawn to someone’s personality, while task attraction pertains to someone’s abilities.
Several factors influence attraction, including proximity, familiarity, similarity, and physical attractiveness. Theories like evolutionary psychology and social exchange theory delve into why we find certain people appealing. Evolutionary psychology posits that attraction is rooted in the desire for optimal reproductive partners, whereas social exchange theory suggests we seek relationships offering the highest rewards with minimal effort.
Types of attraction extend beyond the physical and social to include intellectual and emotional dimensions. Intellectual attraction emerges from stimulating conversations, while emotional attraction is based on shared values and deep emotional bonds.
Attraction significantly impacts relationships, fostering emotional intimacy and stronger bonds. Recent studies highlight the role of chemicals like oxytocin, dubbed the “love hormone,” in strengthening connections. Understanding these dynamics can help us build more conscious, balanced, and spiritual relationships, ultimately leading to a happier, more accepting, and more connected life.

Divine Duality and the Paradox of Aversions and Attractions
Have you ever wondered why life feels like a tightrope walk between opposites? Welcome to the enchanting world of Divine Duality! 🌟 From the highs and lows of our spiritual journeys to the push and pull of everyday decisions, Divine Duality encapsulates the harmonious blend of opposing forces. So, let’s embark on this fascinating trip to understand the nuances of divine opposites and the challenges that come with it.
Insights from Various Traditions
Philosophical Perspectives
According to dualists in philosophy, the mind (or soul) and body exist as separate entities made of substances (non-physical and physical, respectively). This relationship of mutual influence, interactionism, underscores existence’s dual nature. Whether it’s through Descartes’ mind-body problem or discussions on consciousness, this philosophical lens highlights the constant interplay between conflicting states. 📚
Spiritual Perspectives
The Spiritual Law of Duality is where things get even more intriguing. This law suggests that everything exists on a continuum with a complementary opposite. Think of it as two sides of one coin—distinct yet inseparable. For instance, notions of good and evil, love and hate, or peace and chaos illustrate this fascinating duality. Concepts like yin and yang epitomize this balance, showing that opposites are essentially two extremes of the same thing. 🌐
Religious Views
Neoplatonism, embraced by Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, offers fascinating insights into good and evil as essential counterpoints. For example, Augustine argued that evil arises from free will – a divergence from a purely good creation. Similarly, according to the Bhagavad Gita, God created the world full of dualities like day and night or sweet and sour, emphasizing that one cannot exist without the other.
Challenges in Oscillating Between Aversions and Attractions
Balancing these opposites isn’t a walk in the park. 🏞️ For starters, constantly swinging between attraction and aversion can lead to inner turmoil and confusion, hampering our spiritual growth. This dynamic duality can make us perpetually question our path, causing what’s known as “spiritual bypassing,” where we avoid confronting our inner complexities by focusing solely on the positive.
Philosophical Pitfalls
Philosophical explorations also reveal pitfalls. Overemphasis on materialistic wants might distance us from our spiritual core, as indicated by Platonic philosophy, which describes earthly desires as chains that bind the soul.
Spiritual Struggles
Religious and spiritual struggles often result from this dual existence. Faith leaders like Rabbi Zeidman and Imam Yehia Ibrahim suggest that evil exists to test our free will and moral decisions. This challenging duality forces a deeper understanding and often leads to significant growth. Yet, failing to navigate this balance can result in spiritual weariness.
Conclusion
Divine Duality paints the universe in a compelling tapestry of contrasting yet interdependent forces. By understanding and embracing these opposites, we can better navigate the complexities of spiritual and philosophical problems. It’s a continuous journey—one sprinkled with challenges but also filled with profound growth and self-discovery. 🌈✨
